Vault Terms of Service

Effective date: [SET ON PUBLISH] Last updated: [SET ON PUBLISH]

These Terms govern your use of Vault, a personal finance application. By using the app, you agree to them.

1. Who we are

Vault is developed and operated by Akash Unnikrishnan ("we"), based in the United Kingdom. Contact: akash.feb12@gmail.com.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Vault, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country (16 in some EU jurisdictions). If you're under 18, you confirm a parent or guardian has approved your use. You must use the app in compliance with applicable laws.

3. Your account

  • You're responsible for the security of the Apple ID or Google account you sign in with. Vault does not store your passwords.
  • You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date.
  • You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Privacy → Delete Account.
  • We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, attempt to compromise the service, or misuse bank-linking.

4. Bank linking (Open Banking)

When you link a bank account:

  • We use TrueLayer Ltd., a UK FCA-authorised Open Banking provider, to fetch your transaction data and balances. We never see or store your bank credentials — the sign-in happens on your bank's website.
  • Your consent to share data with Vault expires periodically (typically every 90 days, per PSD2/SCA rules) and you must re-authenticate. We cannot control or extend this.
  • You can unlink a bank at any time from the Accounts screen. This revokes Vault's access via TrueLayer's API.
  • We store bank refresh tokens encrypted (AES-256-GCM). See the Privacy Policy.
  • Vault is a read-only tool — we cannot move money, make payments, or change anything in your bank.

5. Subscriptions

Vault offers optional paid subscriptions:

  • Monthly and Yearly plans, processed by Apple via the App Store.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew at the same price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • You can manage or cancel subscriptions anytime in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, or at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple per their refund policy. We cannot process refunds directly. UK and EU users can request a refund within 14 days of purchase under consumer rights law, via Apple.
  • We may change subscription prices; increases apply only to renewals after you're notified.

6. What Vault is, and isn't

Vault is a personal finance tracking tool. It helps you see, categorize, budget, and share expense data.

Vault is not:

  • Financial, tax, legal, or investment advice.
  • A bank, e-money institution, or payment service provider.
  • A substitute for your own judgment about spending and saving.

Any insights, spending trends, or budget recommendations the app shows are automated aggregations of the data you've provided or linked. Treat them as information, not advice.

7. Your content

  • Transactions, budgets, notes, shared-space expenses — all of this is your content. You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display it back to you and (for shared spaces) to the members you invite.
  • We will never sell your content or use it to train third-party models.
  • Shared spaces are visible only to the members you explicitly invite. Space members can see each other's contributions to that space.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Vault to launder money, evade tax, or conduct fraud.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code.
  • Harvest other users' data or attempt to access accounts that aren't yours.
  • Circumvent rate limits, RLS policies, or other security controls.
  • Use the app in a way that interferes with other users' experience.

We reserve the right to terminate access for violations without refund.

9. Disclaimers

As-is service. Vault is provided "as is" and "as available". We disclaim all warranties to the maximum extent permitted by law — merchantability, fitness for purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted availability, and accuracy of imported data are not guaranteed. Bank-imported transactions are only as accurate as TrueLayer and your bank make them. Manual entries rely on your inputs.

No financial advice. See §6.

Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer (UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, EU consumer laws, or your local equivalent).

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages.
  • Our aggregate liability in any 12-month period is capped at the greater of (a) the subscription fees you paid us in that period, or (b) £20.
  • Nothing in this section limits liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be excluded by law.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising from your breach of these Terms, misuse of the service, or violation of another person's rights.

12. Changes to the service and the Terms

We may modify features or these Terms. Material changes to the Terms will be announced via an in-app notice before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the changes. If you disagree, stop using the app and delete your account.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales, except where your local consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring a claim in your home country.

EU consumers: you may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

14. Contact

Questions, complaints, data requests: akash.feb12@gmail.com.

These Terms are designed to be plain-English. If anything is unclear, ask.
